Dr. W. Dickson SchaeferGeneral Orthopaedist
After graduating from North Carolina State University, Dr. Dickson Schaefer attended medical school at Wake Forest University School of Medicine. He then completed his Orthopaedic Surgery residency at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center.
In August 2001, Dr. Schaefer joined Fayetteville Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine. Practicing general orthopaedics, he has a special interest in reconstructive surgery of the hip and knee, as well as trauma surgery. He has received additional training in unicompartmental arthroplasty of the knee and is the only physician in Fayetteville credentialed to perform arthroscopy of the hip.
Dr. Schaefer has served in the United States Army Reserve since his commissioning in 1996. Currently, he holds the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He has twice been deployed to Germany in support of operations in the Middle East and has also served in a Combat Support Hospital in Iraq.
A native of Fayetteville, Dr. Schaefer is married and has 4 children. He is active in the community serving on the Board of Trustees of The Fayetteville Academy and Cape Fear Valley Medical System.

Dr. Christopher J. BarnesSports Medicine/Arthroscopic Surgery/Shoulder SurgeryDr. Chris Barnes joined Fayetteville Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine in 2003 after completing a Sports Medicine and Arthroscopic Reconstruction fellowship at the Southern California Orthopaedic Institute in Van Nuys, California. During his fellowship, Dr. Barnes did extensive training underneath Dr. Stephen Snyder, founder of the International Shoulder Arthroscopy Society.
Originally from Columbus, Ohio, Dr. Barnes graduated Magna Cum Laude with an undergraduate degree in Biology from The University of Michigan. While at Michigan, he was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa Honorary. He was also a member of the Academic All Big Ten Track & Field Team. Dr. Barnes then returned to Columbus to attend The Ohio State University College of Medicine.
After medical school, Dr. Barnes attended Duke University Medical Center for his Orthopaedic Surgery Residency. While at Duke, Dr. Barnes was the Resident Team Physician for Duke University and North Carolina Central University.
Dr. Barnes is currently a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, the Arthroscopy Association of North America and the Piedmont Orthopaedic Society. He has numerous studies and publications to his name.
Dr. Barnes is the current team Orthopaedist for Methodist University and Fayetteville State University. He also covers numerous area high school athletic teams and works closely with the area coaches and trainers. During the fall football season, Dr. Barnes holds a Saturday morning sports injury clinic to expedite the care of the local injured athletes.
Dr. Barnes' special interests are sports injuries, shoulder and knee disorders and arthroscopic reconstructive surgery. His hobbies include college and high school athletics. Most importantly, Dr. Barnes enjoys his time at home with his wife and their three children.

Dr. Daniel E. McBrayerSports Medicine/Arthroscopic SurgeryDr. Dan McBrayer joins Fayetteville Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine after completing a Sports Medicine and Arthroscopy Fellowship at the Hughston Orthopaedic Clinic in Columbus, Georgia. During his fellowship, he focused his training in arthroscopic reconstruction of the hip, shoulder, and knee.
Dr. McBrayer is a native of Charlotte, North Carolina. He attended Vanderbilt University where he graduated Magna Cum Laude. Dr. McBrayer then completed his medical school training at the Medical College of Georgia.
After medical school, Dr. McBrayer attended Duke University Medical Center for his orthopaedic surgery residency. As a resident, he taught Duke University students anatomy, and helped to care for athletes within the community.
While at the Hughston Orthopaedic Clinic, Dr. McBrayer was fortunate to be one of the team physicians for the 2007-8 Division II National Football Championship Valdosta State Blazers. He looks forward to caring for the Fayetteville State Broncos and several high-school athletic teams this year.
Dr. McBrayer is currently a board-certified member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, and the Piedmont Orthopaedic Society. His special interests include, but are not limited to: shoulder replacement, shoulder arthroscopy, hip arthroscopy,
Dr. McBrayer and his wife Catherine have just celebrated twelve years of marriage. He cherishes his time with her and his four children: Emma, Connor, Elizabeth and Charlotte.

Dr. Jonathan D. SwindleOrthopaedic Trauma SurgeonDr.
Jonathan Swindle joined Fayetteville Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine in
2011. He completed an orthopaedic trauma surgery fellowship at Wake Forest
University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, NC. During his fellowship
he focused on pelvis & acetabular fractures, complex peri-articular
fractures, nonunions, and malunions. He also has training in adult joint
reconstruction with specialized training in anterior hip arthroplasty. He
currently practices general orthopaedic surgery with an emphasis on fracture
care.
Dr.
Swindle is a native of northwest Indiana and recently moved to Fayetteville
from the Midwest. He attended Purdue University and completed medical school at
the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed his orthopaedic
surgery residency through the Michigan State University program at Genesys
Regional Medical Center. He later completed the orthopaedic trauma surgery
fellowship where his training focused on complex fractures and poly-trauma
patients. He later practiced in the Midwest before returning to North Carolina.
Dr.
Swindle is currently a member of the American Osteopathic Academy of
Orthopedics, the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the Orthopaedic
Trauma Association, and the American Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle
Society.
Dr.
Swindle's interests are fracture treatment of adults and children, minimally
invasive fracture surgery, adult reconstruction, and general orthopaedics.

Dr. Kimberly A. BarrieFellowship-Trained Hand, Upper Extremity and Microvascular SurgeonDr. Kimberly Barrie recently moved to the Fayetteville area with 10 years of orthopaedic experience working in the Research Triangle of North Carolina. She is a native of Florida.
Dr. Barrie attended medical school at Tufts University in Boston, MA, and did her residency in orthopaedic surgery at Yale University in New Haven, CT. Her interest in hand surgery developed during her residency training at Yale. Dr. Barrie completed her hand fellowship training at the renowned Mayo Clinic, in Rochester, MN. Upon completion of her residency, she completed subspecialty training in Hand and Micro-Vascular fellowship at the Mayo Clinic also.
She is certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. She is fully versed in orthopaedic problems and injuries relating to the upper extremity, focusing on the hand, wrist, and elbow. Dr. Barrie’s special interests include trauma and wrist reconstructive surgery.
While Dr. Barrie has lived in different areas in the country, she is happy to now call Fayetteville home. She looks forward to serving Cumberland and the surrounding counties for hand, wrist, and elbow issues.

Dr. Robert J. LogelGeneral Orthopaedist
Dr. Robert J. Logel was an early partner with Fayetteville Orthopaedic Clinic, PA. Originally from St. Louis, Missouri, Dr. Logel attended St. Louis University for his undergraduate training and University of Missouri School of Medicine for his medical training. After medical school, he remained in Columbia, Missouri and completed his Residency in Orthopaedic Surgery. In 1976, he brought his wife Gene and family to Fayetteville and joined the established practice, known today as Fayetteville Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine.
Dr. Logel currently maintains an office-based practice and no longer takes emergency calls or performs surgery. He enjoys boating and golf and makes frequent trips with his wife to their beach home in Beaufort, NC. He cherishes time spent with his kids and grandkids and his sporting interests revolve around the UNC Tarheels!

Michael E. Dilello, PA-C, ATC-LPhysician Assistant, Sports MedicineMichael Dilello, PA-C, ATC-L joined Fayetteville Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine over 2 years ago with more than 22 years of orthopaedic experience. During the past 22 years, he assisted in the care of many athletes including professional basketball players with the Charlotte Hornets Organization, professional baseball players with the Charlotte Knights Triple-A Team, and he has helped care for several college athletic teams including Davidson College, UNC Charlotte, Wingate College, Belmont-Abbey College and now our local colleges and high schools in Fayetteville and surrounding counties.
Michael currently anchors our Elizabethtown location where he enjoys seeing all types of orthopaedic problems. He spends two days in Fayetteville where he splits time between seeing patients in the Fayetteville office, and assisting our surgeons in the operating room. You may see him covering athletic events, as well. He has an Associate’s Degree in Business from Broome Community College in Binghamton, New York and a Bachelors of Science degree with a double major in Sports Medicine and Medical Science from Alderson- Broaddus College in Philippi, West Virginia. He is a certified athletic trainer licensed in North Carolina as well as a certified Physician Assistant. Michael lives in Harrells and enjoys spending time with his wife, Tricia, and their children.
